The Emeriti Center Volunteer Coordinator position is now open!

We need YOU in this vital position! A volunteer who will provide information, resources, advocacy, and support for the university’s retirees — and in return, gain a cadre of “colleagues for life.”

Since its founding in 1978, the USC Emeriti Center has served the university’s retirees and pre-retirees in living healthy and purposeful lives. As part of the Office of the Provost, the Emeriti Center offers most of its services and programs free of charge.

Must Have’s:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or combined experience/education
  • Organizational, administrative and planning skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and utilize time management skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and anticipate needs, while also working effectively as part of a team
  • Strong customer service predisposition
  • Excellent written and communication skills, and ability to interact with all levels of staff, volunteers and management
  • Adaptable with a positive attitude
  • Ability to work with highly confidential information with absolute discretion
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and Access)

Would Be Nice to Have:

  • Experience In a Higher Ed environment
  • Experience working with volunteers, seniors and/or retirees
  • Experience managing volunteers, students and casual workers
  • Experience with office equipment and interacting with IT support to solve issues

Typical tasks

  • Identify Center needs and match suitable volunteers to tasks
  • Oversee, recruit, manage and coordinate volunteers
  • Serve as a resource to callers, walk-ins, potential and current volunteers
  • Make calls to retirees to support or collect information
  • Help associations with event planning and during events
  • Maintain and modify volunteer information on the department’s website
  • Ensure confidentiality to sensitive information
  • Help maintain volunteer data in retiree database
