Dr. Robert Penny
Robert Penny, M.D., is a USC Keck School of Medicine Emeritus Professor. He came to the USC Health Science Campus (USC-HSC) in 1971 as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, and on the USC-HSC he was, respectively, director of the Pediatric Endocrine and Diabetic Clinics, the Pediatric Endocrine Research Laboratory, and the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology. Doctor Penny became a Professor of Research Medicine in 1991 and established and directed the USC-HSC Clinical Research Center (CRC) Molecular Biology Laboratory. His USC committee memberships included the CRC Advisory Committee, the Year II Medical Student Curriculum Committee, and Chairman of the Year II Medical Student Endocrine System Committee. He retired in 1993.
Nationally, Dr. Penny was a member, respectively, of the Committee on Programs for Renewal of Certification in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, the board of the American Journal of Diseases of Childhood, and the board of the journal of Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. He was a question writer for Pediatric Endocrine Board Examinations.
He has 112 publications and was a reviewer for 10 journals. He was Visiting Professor, Division of Reproductive Endocrinology, University of California, San Diego 1985, and The Endocrine Society Short Courses in Endocrinology Lecturer to Delaware State University 1998.
Dr. Penny was a physician at the Hospital Albert Schweitzer, Deschapelles, Haiti 1966, and a Captain, U.S. Air Forces Medical Corps 1968. Between 1993–1996, he was Vice President of the Palos Verdes Monaco Homeowners Association, First Vice President of the Rancho Palos Verdes Council of Homeowners Associations, President of the Rancho Palos Verdes Council of Homeowners Associations, and a member of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Center Library Neighborhood Planning Committee.
He has been awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the American Medical Association for serving on the board of the journal of Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine 1998 and Certificates of Recognition by USC: (1) for establishing the Molecular Biology Laboratory at the CRC on the Health Science Campus of the USC Keck School of Medicine 1993 and (2) for contributions in education and training in the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes USC Keck School of Medicine, 2005.
Dr. Penny was a member of USC Emeriti College Advisory Board 2003–2005. His present activities are: Core Curriculum Lecturer for the Division of Endocrinology, USC Keck School of Medicine; Lecturer, USC Emeriti College; and reviewer, Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism. He works out at a gym 1–2 hours, 6–7 times a week.
